An annual charity ball has raised thousands of pounds to help those who have suffered a stroke or been diagnosed with prostate cancer and raise awareness of the conditions.

The Peridot Ball takes place at the Powdermills Hotel, Battle, on Saturday August 21 and is now in its fourth year.

It is organised by Hastings woman Hayley Luck, who explained: “After losing my father to prostate cancer in 2011 my family and I decided that we wanted to organise a charity event in his memory and in memory of my mother in law who we had lost to a stroke and to raise funds and awareness about these two conditions, so we organised a charity ball.

“The evening, held at Leeford Place, in Battle, comprised of live musical entertainment, a three course meal, luxury raffle and auction followed by a disco.

“It was such a huge success that we held a further two events at Leeford Place each year being better than the one before and incorporating new ideas. So far we have raised a total of £7600 for Prostate Cancer UK and The Stroke Association.”

This year’s ball is already a sell-out success says Hayley.

She said: “We have had incredible support from people who have come to the previous events and the support in donations of raffle and auction prizes from local individuals and businesses has been overwhelming.

“We are having a luxury raffle,and auction, with the top auction prize this year being the use of the GT86 Giallo sportscar for the weekend courtesy of St Leonards Motors.

“We also have a ladies’ lucky dip which is very popular, and memory balloons so that people can release a balloon as they remember their own loved one. This adds a special touch to the evening.”

Hayley added: This year our aim is to reach a cumulative total of £10,000 for both the charities.

“Due to our success, for the last three years we have a dedicated facebook page which is full of photos of previous events and is constantly updated.
