New vote system needed

ARE people so disillusioned with politics that even when they're given the opportunity to vote for a candidate who wants to save the countryside around their homes, they still refuse to vote?

As Comment (Herald, May 8) put it, even the Stop Durrington's over Development '“ Save Titnore's Trees! Party beat the BNP by only a few votes.

So what can be done to encourage people to vote?

Clearly, brutally ejecting people from observing counting of the votes won't help.
